Our Sandstone Grill Experience

I love having a July birthday. There’s so much to do and the weather is great for celebrating. Unless you’re in a pandemic. And it’s raining. Lockdown and weather aside, a girl’s gotta eat.  If you want to read more about our family adventures? Check out my blog at Living Happyily Ever Austin to read more about regular life, marriage and parenting twin teenagers.

As my birthday was prior to Phase 3 of the province’s re-opening plan, we were limited to outdoor dining only so we went on a quest to find a covered patio where we could enjoy a nice meal out as a family. Enter Sandstone Grill on Victoria Avenue in Niagara Falls. This hidden gem offers a varied menu so it was easy to find something that appealed to the whole family, including two teenagers with huge appetites.

Sandstone Grill Menu

Our son decided to get a little adventurous (by 16 year old standards) and try the calamari as an appetizer. He ended up having to share it with all of us as it was the best calamari we had ever had! Crispy and delicious. He reverted back to his usual favourites and ordered chicken fingers and fries as his main.

Side note: chicken fingers and fries are not listed on the main menu as they are part of the kids menu but our server graciously accommodated the request. Our other son couldn’t decide between the lasagna or french fries so he opted for both and I respect his choices. Potatoes and pasta….can’t go wrong. The lasagna was served fresh out of the oven and piping hot so he was able to enjoy his fries while waiting for it to cool down.

My husband ordered the fish and chips. The portions were very generous and it was some of the most delicious fish and chips we’ve had. I selected the Chicken Swiss Mushroom Melt which came with a choice of side (I went with mashed potatoes) and vegetables.

Like everything else we ordered, it was a generous amount of food and a delicious birthday meal (with enough left over to also enjoy a delicious day-after-my-birthday lunch.)

Overall, the food was excellent, the setting was great (lots of seating available on the outdoor patio) and the service was friendly and prompt. Our server was friendly, attentive and even went the extra mile and surprised me with a piece of cheesecake (my favourite!) with a candle in it for my birthday!

I’ve lived in Niagara Falls for over 15 years and had never heard of Sandstone Grill before our night out. Since then, I’ve recommended it to people looking for a nice meal, good service and a menu with something for the whole family.
